installed as a member of the board of

Astronaut Training Program at the
Kansas Cosmosphere and Space
Center in Hutchinson, Kan.
Brenda Gelman Berkowitz, school
social worker for the Office of Early
Childhood Education, Detroit Public
Schools, received the Champion of
Children award from the Children's
Aid Society
Dr. Edward E Stein of Southfield has
been named 1999 volunteer of the
year by the Oakland Literary Council.
Dr. Donald Ketai and Dorathy Ketai
of Bingham Farms were named tutors
of the year.
Tziona Ragowsky, coordinator of
Hebrew language studies at Akiva
Hebrew Day School and a veteran
Hebrew instructor at the Midrasha
center for adult Jewish studies, partici-
pated in the National Conference of
Day School Hebrew Coordinators
and Consultants at Brandeis
University in Boston. Ragowsky is
preparing a Hebrew curriculum for
the high school at Akiva based on the
most recent research done at Brandeis
and elsewhere.
Joe and Fern Katz of Southfield
recently returned from a singing tour
of Germany and the Scandinavian
countries with the Cantata Academy,
a Detroit-based group under the
direction of Frederick Bellinger. The
Katzes will attend the North
American Jewish Choral Festival at
the Nevele Hotel in New York in
August.
Carey Chicorel of West Bloomfield
has accepted membership in the
National Society of Collegiate
Scholars and will be honored during a
campus ceremony this fall at the
University of Michigan.
Raymonde B. Wert III of Bloomfield
Hills is completing a summer intern-
ship with AIPAC (American Israel
Public Affairs Committee) at their
headquarters in Washington, D.C.,
before returning to James Madison
College at Michigan State University
for his junior year, where he is the
incoming president of the student
board at MSU Hillel. During his
sophomore year at MSU, he was the
historian of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity
and the president of the Michigan
State Israel Alliance.
