Miracle Mission Goers
To Remember, Celebrate

Members of Michigan Miracle
Mission III to Israel will land in time
for the nationwide celebration of
Israel's 51st anniversary of statehood.
Mission participants will join
with other Israelis for the April 21
celebration of Yom HaAtzmaut,
Israel Independence Day. It is
marked by bonfires, parades and
dancing in streets decorated with
lights and flags. The Detroiters will
enjoy entertainment by Israeli
celebrities and a blue-and-white
theme party on the Jaffa waterfront.

The day before the celebration,
Israelis will observe Yom HaZikaron,
Israel Memorial Day, remembering
those who fell in Israel's wars.
The mission will conduct its own
memorial service at Latrun, site of
an Israeli war memorial and the
Armored Corps Museum of the
Israel Defense Forces. The area was a
no-man's-land between 1948 and
1967. The rusted remains of Jewish
convoys trying to bring supplies to
Jerusalem during the War for
Independence line the roadway.
