Benjamin Gampel will discuss the
background of the documents corn-
prising the "Treasures of Jewish
Cultural
Heritage
from the
Library of
the Jewish
Theological
Seminary,"
an exhibit
on display
through
June 6 at the
Detroit
Institute of
Arts.

Gampel
will speak at 2 p.m. Sunday, April
25, on "Judaism, Christianity, Islam:
Confrontation and Cooperation" in
the DIA lecture hall. The JTS exhib-
it has more than 100 manuscripts,
spanning 800 years of Jewish cul-
ture.
Gampel, JTS associate professor
of Jewish history, specializes in the
history of the Jews of the medieval
and early modern world. In his talk,
he will examine the vitality of Jewish
life as seen in Prato Haggadah writ-
ten in 1300s Spain, as well as the
importance of Jerusalem for Jews,
Christians and Muslims.
The talk is co-sponsored by the
Cohn-Hadow Center for Judaic
Studies at Wayne State University
and the Detroit Friends of the
Jewish Theological Seminary, with
support from the Evelyn Hoffman
Kasle Philanthropic Fund.
