N.Y., died Sept. 15. She was a sales-
woman in the furniture business.
She is survived by her son, Dr.
Fred Marcus of Syosset; daughters
and sons-in-law, Carol and Edward
Frauwirth of Massapequa, N.Y., Ros-
alee and Kerry Rubin of massape-
qua; sisters and brother-in-law,
Molly Wolf of Boca Raton, Fla.,
Blanche and Donald Bruce of lady
Lake, Fla.; grandchildren, Neal and
Belicia Frauwirth, Adam Frauwirth;
great-grandchild, Ariel Frauwirth.

MARTIN MESSER, 83, of Oak
Park and life-long resident of the
Detroit metropolitan area, died Aug.
5. He was a noncommissioned offi-
cer in the U.S. Army during World
War II. He owned a wholesale shoe
business with his father for 25 years
(J. Messer Shoes); subsequently, he
worked in furniture sales and interi-
or design. he enjoyed a service-ori-
ented retirement career as Gray Pan-
ther treasurer, nursing home
ombudsman for Citizens for Better
Care, member of Oak Park Arts and
Cultural Committee, public school
aide for children with special needs,
Sholem Aleichem Institute choir
member, book club participant, five-
mile walker.
He is survived by his daughters
and sons-ih-law, Elaine and Jeff
Hyman of Cherry Hill, N.J., Susan
Messer, Jim Poznak and their daugh-
ter Selena of oak Park, Ill., Jan
Messer, Barry Rothman and their
son Nicholas of San Francisco; wife,
Trudi Reifler Messer; Trudi's chil-
dren and grandchildren, Jack, Judy,
Jeffrey and Rachel Nolish, Harold,
Cathy, Alexis and Chelsea Haftka;
sister, Violet Langer; niece and
nephew, Deborah Berlin Langer and
Don Berlin and their daughter Sara;
nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sis-
ters-in-law from the Landgarten,
Kohl, Seiferheld and Gutman fami-
lies. He was the beloved husband of
the late Sylvia Landgarten Messer.

LAWRENCE PHELPS, 87, of
Weston, Fla., died Sept. 12. Mr.
Phelps was the former owner of
Nestors Office Supply in the Gener-
al Motors Building. He was also the
president of the Town House Associ-
ation.
Mr. Phelps is survived by his wife,
Clara Phelps; son, Gary Nestor of
Phoenix; granddaughter, Pam
Hanover; great-grandson, Joshua
Hanover.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be

MORTON ROBINS, 83, of West
Bloomfield, died Sept. 12. Since
1948, Mr. Robins was the owner of
Famous Brand Shoes and at one
time had 16 stores.
He is survived by his wife, Johan-
na Mackie-Robins; son, Jon Mackie
of West Bloomfield; daughter and
son-in-law, Christine and Michael
Papsun of Novi; granddaughter,
Alexandria Mackie. Mr. Robins was
the dear brother of the late Ben-
jamin Robins and the late Dr.
Samuel Robins.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be

BELLE ROSENTHAL, 83, form
of Southfield of Sterling, Va., die•
Sept. 10.
She is survived by her husband,
Jack Rosenthal; daughters, Tina
Rosenthal of Sterling, Sheila Rosen-
thal of West Bloomfield; grand-
daughters, Nina and Miriam Cross
of Sterling; brother and sisters-in-
law, Julius and Nettie Pesick, Sadie
Pesick; sister, Hilda Weiswasser,
