A Prayer for A Broken World; The
Wholesale Klezmer Band; Ofiekumener
Records.
In this their first CD, the Whole-
sale Klezmer Band makes a
fine debut. Not just a typical
oompah klezmer ensemble,
the Wholesale Klezmer Band
mixes up several styles
extremely well, including
cantorial, Old World, and,
yes, some oompah, too.
I especially like "The
Magic Ring," a Bosnian tune
with haunting lyrics. "The
Spear and the Needle" and
"Here I Am" are novel spo-
ken pieces.
