Steven Kaplan, assistant prosecuting
attorney, Macomb County, partici-
pated as a panelist at a Cultural
Awareness Workshop sponsored by
the Asian American Center for Jus-
tice at the Southfield Civic Center.
He also received an award from the
American Bar Association "for the
faithful and professional execution of
services to the Law Student Divi-
sion."

The senior thesis of Aaron Heilbrun
of Beverly Hills has been placed in
Oakland University's research office
and distributed to campus
researchers. Heilbrun's honors college
thesis was titled "Animal Experimen-
tation: An overview of the use of ani-
mals in research at Oakland Universi-
ty." Heilbrun graduates next month
with a B.S. in biology and a B.A. in
Spanish. He will study Spanish next
year at the University of Santiago,
Chile, and then attend Wayne State
University School of Medicine.

Marc Kruman and David Weinberg
are among five professors who are
recipients of Wayne State University
Board of Governors Faculty Recogni-
tion Awards. The faculty members
will receive a citation, engraved
plaque and unrestricted grant of
$2,500 at the Board of Governors
meeting.

Hears Rev. Flowers

The Reverend Kenneth Flowers, pas-
tor of Greater New Mount Moriah
Missionary Baptist Church, will be the
guest speaker at Temple Beth El's
Shabbat services, 8 p.m. Friday, June
5. Reverend Flowers was previously
pastor of the Messiah Baptist Church
in Los Angeles where he saw his con-
gregation through the upheaval of
1992. There, he also built a close rela-
tionship with Rabbi John Rosove
whose congregation provided a tempo-
rary home to Flowers' church follow-
ing damage sustained during the Los
Angeles earthquake. He and his con-
gregation have built a close relation-
ship with Temple Beth El, worship-
ping and working together and shar-
ing seders in 1997 and 1998, each
attended by nearly 500 members of
the two congregations.
The Reverend Flowers will address
the congregation at services.

Discussion Set

Congregation Or Chadash will host
a learning session 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
on the first day of Shavuot, Sunday,
May 31. Rabbi Eliezer Cohen will
speak on the approach of Rav Moshe
Feinstein to Jewish law, and Ed
Codish will discuss Emmanuel Lev-
inas' essay titled "A Religion for
Adults."
The learning will take place at the
home of Susann and Ed Codish,
14111 Ludlow Place, Oak Park.
Minchah services will follow the
study, and light refreshments will be
served.

Installation

Marshall-Israel-Brandeis Chapter,
Jewish Women International will

Author Dan Kurzman will speak on
his new book Soldier of Peace: The
Life of Yitzhak Rabin, 7:30 p.m.
