Sara Canning, the Israeli shlichah for
Habonim-Dror, will be the guest
speaker at the monthly Mifgash pro-
gram for Hebrew speakers at the
Agency for Jewish Education's
Midrasha Center for Adult Jewish
tudies, noon Sunday, April 19, at
E, 21550 W.
12 Mile Road,
Southfield. Ms.
Canning will
give a talk in
Hebrew on "The
Kibbutz: Past,
Present and
Future."
Ms. Canning
is here on a two-
year assignment
to work with
Sara Canning
children and
teens from the Midwest. She was born
in South Africa, immigrated to Israel
with her family when she was 6 years
old, and grew up on Kibbutz Kfar
Hamaccabi near Haifa.
The monthly Mifgash is free. Light
refreshments are provided:

Try putting a dollar figure on the hours of
service given by volunteers to our Jewish
community. You'll come up with a pretty
hefty number. In the millions.

But volunteering isn't about dollars. It's
about bringing joy to the lives of the
aged, advocating for people with disabili-.
ties, raising funds for the Allied Jewish
Campaign and other important causes.

It's about distributing food to the hungry,

Volunteers come in all ages. They pre-
serve our past, and they plan for our
future. Sometimes, their work goes
unrecognized. But they keep on doing it
because it feels right.

talent and heart to our community and
