A businessperson interested in sign-
ing a deal with another could test the
other's voice to find out whether he
really intends to supply a product or
service on time; checking out a used
car or second-hand apartment would
be much safer if deceivers were filtered
out with a Truster.
Though checking whether a spouse
is cheating on you is an obvious appli-
cation, Segal and Lieberman hope this
won't be a major use. A more sophis-
ticated model, in the form of a device
with a microphone that can be worn
on one's belt, is being sold for $2,500
for security use: it could examine peo-
ple at border crossings, and be utilized
by customs officials, at prisons and for
numerous other uses.
Segal says the company will begin
selling the product for downloading
from the Internet (at www.truster.com ).
And given the tremendous interest
Truster has generated around the
world, he probably isn't lying, or even
exaggerating, when he says he expects
this unusual product to take in $15
million this year and nearly $80 mil-
lion by 2000. Honest! ❑
