Errol Morris' "Fast, Cheap & Out of Control"
recently named best documentary of 1997
by the New York Film Critics Circle —
returns to an area screen.

T
here is a thin line between
the unusual and the inex-
plicable, and Errol Morris
walks that tightrope with a
filmmaker's finesse.
The movie man, who once helped
bring an unjustly accused killer to the
attention of authorities through his
award-winning documentary The Thin
Blue Line, has lined up a reel cast of
characters for his latest, somewhat
eerie effort.
Fast, Cheap & Out of Control
focuses on four characters whose
career choices won't be found in
of both a Guggenheim Fellowship and
a MacArthur Fellowship.
The fellowship he feels for his sub-
jects comes through on the screen.
"The success of my interviews with
the subjects owes a lot to that need to
communicate with people," says
Morris.
"I am a receptive audience, plus I
love to talk. I was born to babble."
Talk to Morris long enough and
you realize that he sees the common-
place in the eccentric. "By the end of
college catalogs.
