Bailen was a retired Chrysler auto
production worker.
He is survived by his daughter
and son-in-law, Rachel and Bruce
Smith of Bloomfield Hills; grand-
daughter, Carolyn Smith. Mr.
Bailen was the beloved husband of
the late Ruth Bailen. Arrangements

BERNICE BALABAN, 80, of Coral

Gables, Fla., died Dec. 19.
She is survived by her daughter
and son-in-law, Carol and Dr. Dale
Davis of Coral Gables; grandchil-
dren, Julie Davis, Mark Davis,
Carrie Stauss; great-grandsons, Noah
and Jeremy. She was the beloved
wife of the late Nate Balaban.

80, of West Bloomfield, died Dec.
20. Mrs. Burdick was in retail sales
for Sam's Cut Rate.
She is survived by her daughter
and son-in-law, Carolyn and Steven
Marks of Farmington Hills; grand-
children, Andrew and Amy Marks;
sister, Rose Stocker Hertzberg. Mrs.
Burdick was the beloved wife of the
late Victor Dreyfoos and the late
Harry Burdick; dear sister of the late
David Rubin.
Interment at Beth El Memorial

ROSE G. DIAMOND, 97, of

Southfield, died Dec. 19. Mrs.
Diamond was a special education
teacher in Detroit for over 44 years
and she received the key to the city
from the late Mayor Young for meri-
torious service. She graduated in
1918 and then went back to college
and received a second degree in
1954 from Wayne State University.
In 1915, Mrs. Diamond was the
first woman in Michigan to receive a
drivers license. Mrs. Diamond was
the president of many organizations
including Women's American ORT
and Hadassah. She also was a mem-
ber of Adat Shalom Synagogue
Sisterhood and was honored this
year for her commitment to the syn-

agogue. She attended services every
Saturday for the past 40 years.
Mrs. Diamond is survived by her
husband of 63 years, Jack V.
Diamond; daughters and son-in-law,
Marjorie and Stephen Ziff of
Franklin, Mimi Werber of East
Lansing; grandchildren, Julie
Cykiert, Stuart Cykiert, Michael and
Sandy Lippitt, Richard and
Elizabeth Lippitt, Ronald Lippitt,
Brian Ziff, Adam Ziff, Jennifer and
Gordon Goldbaum, Matthew
Werber; great-grandchildren, Josh
Cykiert, Nathan Cykiert, Max
Lippitt, Scott Lippitt; sister, Sylvia
"Sorky" Helfer. She was the dear
mother-in-law of the late Jay
Werber.
Interment at Machpelah

Park, died Dec. 18.
She is survived by her mother,

MORRIS HOLTZ, 46, of Allen

Park, died Dec. 20.
He is survived by his parents,
Abraham and Helen Holtz of
Southfield; sisters and brothers-in-
law, Diane and Anthony Schwartz of
West Bloomfield, Suzanne and
Martin Weisberg of Huntington
Woods; loving friend, Gary
Markyvech.

VICTOR HURWITZ, 71, of

Southfield, died Dec. 18. Mr.
Hurwitz was a television producer
and director of Channel 4 from
1951-1981. After 1981, Mr.
Hurwitz had his own advertising
agency and then went into video
production. Mr. Hurwitz earned his
bachelor of arts and master's degrees
from the University of Michigan in
communications and taught film
and TV production at Wayne State
University, the University of Detroit

and Oakland Community College;
he also initiated the radio depart-
ment at Marygrove College. Mr.
Hurwitz was a pioneer in Detroit
television and received many nation-
al and local awards. He was a mem-
ber of the Adcraft Club, current
board member and past officer of
the National Association of TV Arts
and Sciences, a member of Temple
Beth El, a past treasurer of the
Variety Club and a World War II
U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Hurwitz is survived by his
wife, Ruth Hurwitz; daughter, Lissa
Hurwitz of Maryland; son and
daughter-in-law, Keith Hurwitz and
Patty Rehfus of Virginia; brother
and sister-in-law, Louis and Eunice
Hurwitz of Grand Blanc. He was the
loving brother of the late Ruth
Blank and the dear brother-in-law of
the late Herman Blank, the late
Florence Muskovitz and the late
David Muskovitz.
Interment at Beth El Memorial
