Cairo (JPFS) — The massacre of
some 60 tourists at Luxor has dis-
tracted most Egyptians from whatev-
er attention they might have been
willing to pay today's 20th anniver-
sary of President Anwar Sadat's visit
to Jerusalem.
Even without the massacre, how-
ever, any anniversary mood would
likely have been subdued because of
Egypt's deep reservations about
Israel's role in the peace process.
No official ceremony has been
announced to mark the occasion and
press attention has been scanty. The
English-language Egyptian Gazette
was the only Cairo newspaper to
devote an article to the anniversary.

Histadrut Group
In Gaza

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Al-Quds reports
that a delegation representing the
Histadrut's Jewish-Arab Institute,
headed by Mahmood Mafra and
Aharon Ya'akov, visited the Gaza
City Council.
Mayor Awn Shawa emphasized
that "the Israelis who support peace
need to pressure Netanyahu's extrem-
ist government in order to bring it
down or force it to change its poli-
cies. We thought we will become a
new Singapore in the Middle East,
but unfortunately we were dragged
into a turbulence of arbitrary steps
that have caused us to question
Israel's intentions."

Edelstein Meets

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Absorption
Minister Yuli Edelstein left for a trip
to the United States, during which
he is to visit Jonathan Pollard in
Butner Prison in North Carolina.
A spokesman for Edelstein said
Edelstein wants to put Pollard's case
back on the national agenda, and
believes his situation has been
neglected by the government.
It has been 13 years since Pollard's
imprisonment, and the spokesman
said Edelstein believes the efforts to
get back the General Security Service
agents involved in the Mashaal Affair
leads him to believe that the country
has the power to bring individuals
