SPERBER'S

CATERING

KOSHER VS. NON-KOSHER

in search of spiritual fulfillment and
insights into the relationship
between God and humans.
One such seeker is pop singer
Madonna, who has been studying
with the center's senior teacher, Eitan
Yardeni. Such is the Material Girl's
faith in her instructor that during
her pregnancy she sought his advice
on the best day to deliver her child.
The Kabbalah Learning Center is
headquartered in Tel Aviv and has
branches in the United States, South
America, Canada, Mexico and
France.

Before You Book Your Next Affair, Consider This:

HOTELS:
Charge thousands of dollars for their banquet halls.
SPERBER'S: Does not charge for any of their banquet halls

whether you are a member or non-member of the synagogue.)

Charge high per person liquor fees (or make you take their word on
how much your guests consume.)
SPERBER'S: Says you are welcome to order your own liquor, and we will show you
ways to save.

South African Rabbi
Stirs Tax Debate

1 77

Johannesburg (JTA) — The South
African chief rabbi's apparent sup-
port for a new tax on the wealthy has
angered some local Jews.
Chief Rabbi Cyril Harris caused
the stir with testimony before the
country's Truth and Reconciliation
Commission, which has been
attempting to resolve issues left over
from the era of apartheid and heal
the nation's wounds from that peri-
od.
At issue was whether Harris, who
was testifying on the role played by
religious organizations under
apartheid, had expressed support
for a proposal put forward by an aca-
demic that an annual tax of 0.5 per-
cent of assets be assessed on people
with a net worth of more than
$422,000.
