f a baby cries, he or she must be
hungry.
A baby cries for a variety of
reasons, including as part of
development. Meet the baby's needs
and listen for changes in a cry.
In pregnancy, if a mother holds her
hands over her head, the baby will get
tangled up in its cord.
Babies float in a fluid environment
and mom's activity doesn't affect the
baby.
If a new mom puts a knife under
the pillow while in labor it will cut the
pain.
Knives do not cut pain; relaxation
techniques work to relax mother and
ease delivery.
Sex during the last month of preg-
nancy will hurt the baby.
Actually, the baby is cushioned in a
protective environment. Sex will not
hurt the baby.
If your mother delivered her chil-
dren in 20 minutes or fewer, you will,
too.
Each mother is an individual and
length of labors can't be compared.
My baby should sleep through the
night.

hours a day asleep, their sleep isn't lik
that of adults. Adults spend up to 80'
percent of their sleeping time in
sound, deep sleep, compared to orly
about 20 percent for new babies. For
the rest of their sleeping time, babies
are lightly dozing.
If a new mother is organized, she
can continue to do what she did
before she had a newborn.
Newborns take a great amount of;
time. Cut your expectations in half.
The immaculate home, gourmet
meals and fastidiously organized c,
schedule aren't as important for the
moment as taking care of the baby
and yourself. Use paper plates and j
use your answering machine to allow
yourself to nap. Rather than working
when baby sleeps, restore your ener-
gY.
A fat baby is a healthy baby.
The fact is, fat babies often turn
out to be fat adults.
Solid foods will help a baby sleep
through the night.
There is no proof, but even if solid
foods help a baby sleep they shouldn't
be started before the doctor recom-
mends it, usually when the baby is
four to six months old.
Wearing shoes will help a baby
walk sooner.
Just the opposite is true. Keepin,,'
baby barefoot will strengthen his mus
des and help him learn to walk more
quickly.
