Applications are now being accept-
ed for the Evan Shapiro and Matthew
Doren Leadership awards, available to
all nationally registered members of
Michigan Region BBYO who will
attend the Kallah and ILTC programs
at B'nai B'rith Perlman Camp or the
ILSI program in Israel during the
summer of 1998. Each award offers a
$1000 scholarship.
An essay is required with each
application. The application deadline
is Dec. 1. Winners will be announced
at the Michigan Regional BBYO
Convention at the end of December.
Application forms have been mailed to
all registered members of Michigan
Region BBYO; additional applications
are available at the BBYO Chapter
Service Center.
On Sunday, Oct. 26, Ann Arbor
Teen Connection will take a trip
11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. to the World's
Largest Corn Maze in Manchester
Township, north of the Irish Hills.
The program will include a hayride
tour of the farm, excursion through
the maze, hands-on activities with the
farm animals and a picnic. There is an
admission charge.

Shabbat Event

Leader Awards
Nominations
Congregation Beth Achim will partici-
pate in the city-wide program called
"Rekindling Shabbat." Special Shabbat
activities will take place on the last
weekend on each month, with the first
event Saturday, Oct. 25. Religious
school students will put on a program
on the meaning of Shabbat.

Adat Shalom Synagogue will join in
the community program, beginning
with a Shabbat afternoon celebration
5:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 25. Starting with
Minchah, families will gather in the
main sanctuary for a brief service led
by Adat Shalom children. Minchah
will be followed by a grand se'udah,
for a light supper. Ma'ariv will be fol-
lowed by Havdalah and a melave
malkah, with singing and dancing led
by Israeli dance duo, Shelly Komer
Jackier and Avi Zechory. The evening
will end at approximately 8:15 p.m.
Dinner reservations for the Oct. 25
program are required. There is a $6 c
charge for adults and a $4 fee for chil-
dren. The community is welcome.

Folkdance
Classes Start
Shelly Korner Jackier and Avi
Zechory are initiating a session of
Israeli folkdance for beginners 7-8
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Community
Center. Those attending are invited to
remain for the intermediate and
advanced dance that follows.
The class is geared for those who
have never danced Israeli folkdance or
those who haven't danced it for years.
Teens and adults are welcome to par-
ticipate.
