Panel Talks
Family Matters

A panel of specialists will discuss issues
of importance to parents at a "Family
Matters" forum 7:30 p.m. Monday,
Oct. 20, at the Max M. Fisher
Federation Building.
Panelists include Harlene Winnick
Appelman, Dr. Purnima Mehra and
Dr. Michael J. Miletic. Mrs.
Appelman is director of community
outreach and education for the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Admission is $10. A dessert recep-
tion is included. Dietary laws will be

B'nai B'rith
Holds Meeting

The first general meeting of the new
Zager/Stone/Tucker/Grant B'nai B'rith
Unit will take place 7:15 p.m. Sunday,
Oct. 19, at the Hunter's Ridge club-
house, 31200 Hunters Drive,
Farmington Hills.
Bruce Gorosh, new regional presi-
dent, will be guest speaker. Z/S/T/G,
formerly a B'nai B'rith lodge, has
regrouped into a singles/couples unit.
The first community service on the
agenda is a hat, gloves and scarf collec-
tion. These items are to be distributed
to agencies that service needy Jewish
and non-Jewish people. Drop off
donations during October and
November at the B'nai B'rith office,
31600 W. 13 Mile Rd., Farmington

Program Grows

Child Development at the Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Center of Metropolitan Detroit has
added transition classrooms to its
existing preschool program at both
West Bloomfield and Oak Park loca-
tions to accommodate a limited num-
ber of children in the infant/toddler
(children from 2 months to 2 1/2
years) and transition (children from 2
1/2 years to potty-trained) classrooms.
Highlights of these programs
include: Judaic/readiness curriculum,
swimming and kosher lunches/snacks.
Parents have the option of half-day

(a.m. only), half-day with lunch or
full day (7 a.m.- 6 p.m.) programming
(a minimum of two days are required).
A 10 percent sibling discount also is
available.

Workmen's Circle
Hosts Attorney

At its 3:30 p.m. meeting Sunday, Oct.
26, the Workmen's Circle/Arbeter
Ring Branch will host Steven Kaplan,
assistant prosecuting attorney of
Macomb County, who will speak on
"How to Improve the Criminal Justice
System." The meeting will be held at
the Workmen's Circle Building, 26341
Coolidge, Oak Park.
Refreshments will be served. The
public is invited.

JPI Sukkot
Festivities

Spend Sukkot with the Jewish Parerits
Institute, 10 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. Sunday,
Oct. 19, at Maple-Drake. Build and
decorate a sukkah, participate in
Israeli singing and dancing, crafts and
games.

Jewish History
Series Continues

Professor Moshe Rosman, Padnos vis-
iting professor of Judaic studies in the
history department at the University
of Michigan and Deutsch family visit-
ing scholar in Jewish history at
Congregation B'nai Moshe, will dis-
cuss "The Coming of the Printed
Book," 8-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at
B'nai Moshe. The lecture is part of
Professor Rosman's four-part series
titled "Jewish History Revised."
Upcoming lecture topics and dates
are "The Rise of Hasidism," Oct. 27
and "Post-Zionism," Nov. 3. The
charge is $7 per lecture ($5 per lecture
for members of B'nai Moshe).
Starting Monday, Nov. 10,
Professor Rosman will begin another
four-part lecture series at B'nai Moshe
titled "Written Back into the Story:
Women in Jewish History" Details
will be announced.
