ROY "SKIP" RAPPAPORT, 71, of
Ann Arbor, died Oct. 9. He enlisted
1i 1 the army at 17 and was awarded
the Purple Heart.
► He received his undergraduate
degree in hotel administration from
Cornell University. He opened an inn
Min Lennox, Mass., before returning to
school to obtain his doctorate degree
from Columbia in 1966.
Mr. Rappaport was a professor of
anthropology at the University of
IIMichigan and most recently the
director of U-M's program on studies
in religion.
Mr. Rappaport was a consultant to
o iducational, anthropological and
environmental projects as well as a
consultant to the state of Nevada on
the storing of nuclear wastes at Yucca
Mountain.
He was elected to the American
'Association for the Advancement of
Science and the American Academy
of Arts and Sciences.
Mr. Rappaport is survived by his
wife, Ann Rappaport; daughters,
PRmelia Rappaport of Vermont, Gina
Rappaport; sister and brother-in-law,
Nancy and Howard Kaufman of
Massachusetts.
Interment at Beth Emeth
Cemetery in Ann Arbor.
