* With the end of summer comes
the startup of fresh community
theater programs throughout the
metro area.
The Ridgedale Players are opening
their season with Neil Simon's
brand of humor in Rumors. The play
unfolds with confusion when dinner
guests confront the reasons their
would-be host shot himself.
Appearing in the production are
Julie Yolles, Cindy Steinberger, John
Alwardt, Laura Bell, Jerry Butler,
Lisa Curry, Carl Jones, Larry
Pelliccioni, Linda Pelliccioni and
George Valenta.
As always, the audience is served
sandwiches and coffee at each after-
glow.
The play runs Sept. 19-20, 25-
28 and Oct. 3-5. Performances are
at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays;
7:30 p.m. Thursday; and 3 p.m.
Sundays. The Ridgedale Playhouse
is at 205 W. Long Lake Road, Troy.
For information, call (248) 988-
7049.
* Philip Handleman, president of
the television production company
Handleman Filmworks, soon will
see his photograph of the Air
Force Thunderbirds on a 32-cent
stamp.
The image, selected from a
large number submitted as part of
a nationwide competition, honors
the 50th anniversary of the U.S.
Air Force as a separate military ser-
vice.
The photo, taken eight years ago
at the former Wurtsmith Air Force
Base in Oscoda, features the service's
official air demonstration team in
the classic four-ship diamond for-
mation.
The stamp's issuance will be at a
Sept. 18 ceremony in the Pentagon
courtyard.
Besides being an aviation photog-
rapher, Handleman is an author,
historian and pilot. He currently
owns and flies two restored airplanes
of military lineage, including a
World War II vintage open-cockpit
biplane.
