The image, selected from a large number submitted as part of a nationwide competition, honors the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force as a separate military ser- vice. The photo, taken eight years ago at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, features the service's official air demonstration team in the classic four-ship diamond for- mation. The stamp's issuance will be at a Sept. 18 ceremony in the Pentagon courtyard. Besides being an aviation photog- rapher, Handleman is an author, historian and pilot. He currently owns and flies two restored airplanes of military lineage, including a World War II vintage open-cockpit biplane.
