First Aid Class
Is Offered

Survivors

The Adat Shalom Synagogue
Men's Club will offer an emer-
gency first aid class 10 a.m. Sun-
day, Sept. 14, at the synagogue.
This practical, hands-on pro-
gram will cover emergency first
aid measures in the home and
community. Information will be
provided by members of the Com-
munity Emergency Medical Ser-
vice.
The course is appropriate for
adults and teen-agers. The ses-
sion will run until 1 p.m. Light
refreshments will be served.
There is a $3 charge. Advance
reservations are required. To reg-
ister, call the synagogue office,

In an effort to assist Hungarian
Holocaust survivors receive com-
pensation from the Hungarian
government, Jewish Family Ser-
vice has arranged for an experi-
enced professional to review the
guidelines and eligibility criteria,
translate and assist individuals
with completing the lengthy ap-
plication form.
The program is planned for ear-
ly September and will be held for
two days. Assistance will be pro-
vided in English and Hungarian.
There is a fee for this program.

Gym Class
For Toddlers

The Adat Shalom Synagogue
Nursery School will begin a
Mommy (or Daddy) and Me
Gym program for budding sports
stars 12 to 18 months old.
The toddler gym class will be
held from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
Mondays, beginning Sept. 15
and ending Jan. 19. Trained spe-
cialists from "The Little Gym"
will direct the classes.
Sessions will include aerobics,
rhythm exploration, tumbling,
songs, games, parachute activi-
ties and ball play. Class size will
be limited to 15 youngsters.
There is a $135 fee for Adat
Shalom members and a $150
charge for non-members. To reg-

Bar-Ilan
Dinner Set

Dr. Mark and Linda Diem have
established an endowed gradu-
ate scholarship fund at Bar-Ilan
University to be inaugurated at
the university's annual dinner
5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10,
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
Entertainment will be by the
Klezmer Fusion Band, and a
cabaret will follow the program.

History Tour
On Sept. 14

The Jewish Historical Society of
Michigan will host a bus tour of
old Jewish Detroit noon-5 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 14.

Fall Classes

The Bais Chabad Torah Center
fall schedule of classes will com-
mence on Sunday, Sept. 7.
On Tuesdays (women) and
Thursdays (men) at 8 p.m. there
will be a bais medrash. During
September there also will be a re-
view of the laws of family purity
during the women's Bais Medrash
evenings.

CHAIM Discusses
Poland, Prague

CHAIM - Children of Holocaust-
Survivors Association In Michi-
gan will present a panel discussion
and video presentation about
CHAIM's recent journey to Poland
and Prague, 7:30 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 14, at the Maple-Drake Jew-
ish Community Center.
The community is invited to at-
tend. There is no charge.

Opera House
Tour Planned

A guided tour of the Detroit Opera
House, preceded by a continental
brunch, will take place 10:30 a.m.-
3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, hosted by
the Cultural Committee of Tem-
ple Kol Ami in West Bloomfield.
Both temple members and non-
members are invited.
The fee of $25 per person cov-
ers the catered brunch at the tem-
ple, the guided tour of the Detroit
Opera House, and transportation
by chartered bus from the temple
to the Opera House and return.
(Those who prefer to use their own
transportation are also welcome
to participate, at the same fee.)
