Music Men

What do John Williams, left, and
Itzhak Perlman, right, have in com-
mon? They both are the quintessence
of their respective musical genres;
they performed together on a new al-
bum of popular film music, Cinema
Serenade; and they both will be shar-
ing a stage performing the songs on
this album, to be telecast live on PBS.
Williams — a five-time Oscar-win-
ning composer of such film scores as
Jaws, Star Wars, Fiddler on the Roof
and many more — collaborated with
Perlman on Schindler's List. See
them perform selections from such
favorites as Out of Africa, Cinema
Paradiso and Williams' own Sabri-
na. 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, on

When The Cat's Away

The MA's Detroit Film Theatre's new season is grandly under way

Robert Zimmerman, a.k.a. Bob Dylan (no re-
lation, alas, to JNArts and Entertainment Ed-
itor Gail Zimmerman, but father of the
Wallflowers' Jakob) returns to Detroit, with
opening acts BR5-49, and Ani Difranco, pic-
tured, who so sweetly covered Dusty Spring-
field's "Wishin' and Hopin"' for My Best Friend's
Wedding. The whole bunch appears 6:30 p.m.

Megadeth

When Metallica gave guitarist Dave Mustaine the boot, he formed

Driving Spirit, the new Automotive
Hall of Fame's short video which
takes viewers from the days of horse
and buggy to a modern-day car race.
Experience an interactive history of
the world-wide motor vehicle industry with exhibits and activities, including R.E. Olds' Work-
shop, Klaus Berner's "Aeropede" sculpture and Immigrant Worker Life Stories. The grand open-

Celtic Music Festival
