Electric Candles
For Shabbat
Young Israel of Southfield has
begun a "From Darkness to
Light" project to provide elec-
tric candles for the hospitalized.
Electric candlesticks are now
available from Young Israel of
Southfield for women who wish
to fulfill the mitzvah of lighting
candles but for whom safety
considerations prevent using
wax candles.
To memorialize their parents,
Eleanore Rose and Ella Posner,
Esther and Erwin Posner have
purchased electric candlesticks.
These will be distributed, in a
kit. Since not all sources of elec-
tric light are appropriate for
Shabbat candlelighting, a book-
let has been included which de-
scribes the Halachot involved
in use of electric candles for this
purpose.
