MILDRED SPOON, 75, of
West Bloomfield, died Jan. 6.
Mrs. Spoon was a member of
Adat Shalom Synagogue. For
15 years, she was a gray lady at
Sinai Hospital and volunteered
in the outpatient cancer center
at Harper Hospital. Mrs. Spoon
also worked at halfway houses
through the Jewish Welfare
Federation and at the green-
house at the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Jewish Community Cen-
ter.
She is survived by her hus-
band of 55 years, Harry; daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Linda
Spoon-Simonton and Jack Si-
monton of Huntington Woods;
sons and daughters-in-law, Jef-
frey and Barbara of West
Bloomfield, Alan and Terri of
Potomac, Md.; grandchildren,

DR. LAWRENCE M. WEIN-
ER, 73, of Bloomfield Hills, died
Dec. 31. Dr. Weiner served in
the U.S. Navy during World
War II. He joined the Wayne
Medical School faculty as in-
spector and recently completed
45 years of lecturing and work-
ing in the laboratory. His career
at Wayne State University in-
cluded being a full professor,
acting chairman of the Depart-
ment of Microbiology, chairman
of the Department of Inifnunolo-
gy and Microbiology, associate
dean as part of the troika run-
ning the medical school and
deputy dean in charge of day-to-
day running of the school. In
1962, Dr. Weiner was invited as
one of 12 world scientists to at-
tend a NATO symposium at the
Max Planck Institute in Gotten-
heim, Germany.
Dr. Weiner is survived by his
wife, Shirley; daughters and
sons-in-law, Nancy and Roger
Anstey of Avon, Conn., Carol
and Dr. Richard &non of West
Bloomfield; grandchildren;
Karen and Lisa Roos, Jodi, Alli-
son, Dana and Melanie Borson.
Interment at Beth El Memorial
