Prague (JTA) — Jewish leaders
unveiled a plaque in the Slovak
town of Kolbasov in remem-
brance of 11 Jewish citizens
who were killed there by Ukrain-
ian nationalists in December
1945.
Speaking at the unveiling,
Pavol Traubner, the honorary
chairman of the Central Asso-
ciation of Slovak Jewish Com-
munities, said Kolbasov was only
one of many European towns
with Jewish martyrs.
Condemning anti-Semitism
and other forms of racism, he
warned that other religious
groups could be persecuted in the
future the way Jews were in the
past.
The Ukrainians who mur-
dered the 11 Slovak Jews during
World War II had been part of
a nationalist unit known as the
Banderites.

Jerusalem (JTA) — Israel's do-
mestic security service has
asked the High Court of
Justice for permission to use
"moderate physical force" in the
interrogation of a Palestinian de-
tainee.
According to the Shin Bet, Is-
lamic Jihad member Muham-
mad Abdel Aziz Khamadan had
"essential" information on a ter-
rorist attack planned for the near
future.
Earlier, the court issued a
temporary ban on the use of
physical force until it ruled on
a petition submitted by Mr.
Khamadan.
Originally from a West Bank
village in the Ramallah area, Mr.
Khamadan was deported to
Lebanon more than three years
ago aspart of a mass deportation
of Islamic Jihad and Hamas ac-
tivists by then-Prime Minister
Yitzhak Rabin.
He was later allowed to return
to his home, but has since been,
detained a number of times bY
Israeli security forces.
Israeli security forces went on
high alert at the end of last
month, after receiving warning
that the Islamic Jihad group waF1
planning to carry out a terrorist
attack inside Israel.
Security forces believed an Is
lamic Jihad cell had possibly in
filtrated into Israel and was
awaiting a green light from its
operators.
In the past, the Shin Bet ha,
asked to use moderate physic'
force in interrogations, stating
that some detainees may hav
