Family Event
"Cycle Scene," a family bicycle
safety program for 1st-5th graders
will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday,
June 4, at the Jimmy Prentis Mor-
ris Jewish Community Center.
The free family event is co-spon-

Center and the Neighborhood Pro-
ject,
The Oak Park Department of
Public Safety will register bikes
for a $2 fee and provide free bike
inspections and safety instruc-
/— tions. Children can test their skills

on an obstacle course and learn
bike fitness exercises.
Kosher refreshments will be
available for a charge. Individu-
als will have the opportunity to
win a bike helmet donated by
Olympic Schwinn and Fitness
of Oak Park.

In a program featuring folk mu-
sic played on traditional Russian
instruments and Hebrew/Zion-
ist/Jewish pop melodies sung a
capella, two new ensembles—the
Russian Souvenir folk orchestra
and the Kol Hakavod choir—will
share the stage at Congregation
Beth Shalom's spring concert,
Sunday, June 9, at 8 p.m. Ad-
mission is free.
Recently formed by Gennady
Zut, a Detroit-based balalaika
virtuoso, Russian Souvenir
blends Russian-and American-
born performers on the balalai-
ka and domra (Russian folk
instruments), the bayan (a Russ-
ian accordion) and the 49-string
ancient Russian gusli. They will
be accompanied by pianist Ta-
tiana Zut.
Kol Hakavod is an a cappella
group at the University of Michi-
gan Hillel. In addition to con-
certs, they have produced "Sheer
Michigas," an album of their mu-
sic.
The Spring Concert is spon-
sored by Beth Shalom's Cultur-
al Commission. For information,
