ANOTHER RESTAURANT

name with a great tradition re-
turns as the original Stage Deli
opens Aug. 15 in the new 650-seat
court at Somerset Collection
North.
Owner Steve Goldberg, son of
Harriet and the late Jack Gold-
berg, bought back the Nine-Mile-
in-Oak-Park name his parents
had sold after opening Stage &
Co. on the Boardwalk in West
Bloomfield.
Steve will bring back the old
Stage Deli logo and the nostalgic
feel will include the best of his
present Stage & Co.
Everything will be prepared in
a display kitchen where cus-
tomers get to see sandwiches be-
ing made plus the many deli
preparations, most of which will
be homemade right there on the
premises.
The 1,000 square feet of
kitchen and counters will be one
of eight Somerset North restau-
> rants open seven days a week.
Stage & Co.'s most popular
sandwiches, four favorite salads,

/-

four most wanted cold plates, the
traditional soups (matzah ball,
noodle, etc.), desserts (bobka,
cheesecake, etc.) and beverages
(Dr. Pepper, Nesbit Orange, Ver-
nor's, etc.) will be highlighted.
The Stage name will do won-
ders among shoppers, and Steve
Goldberg bringing back that
original title is highly com-
mendable.
WHERE THEY ARE ... Hy
Vogel, famous London Chop.
House caricaturist of yester-
years, whose works of celebrities
hung on the "Chop" rafters ... is
at the Fleischman Home in West
Bloomfield ... 95 years old and
still going strong with the brush
and colors ... Hy's clowns are
masterpieces.
A CHINESE restaurant that
serves crab legs? ... As if almost
1,000 pounds of whitefish a week
isn't enough, Gene Woo and his
Hoa Kow of West Bloomfield, at
Crosswinds Mall, now has crab
legs Cantonese sauteed in black
bean sauce, with a slight hint of
garlic ... $12.95 ... Like his white-
fish, the portions are huge.
THROUGH JUNE 30, at six
of Matt Prentice's Unique
Restaurant Corporation restau-
rants, will be its first annual Soft
Shell Crabfest ... Sebastian's
Grill in Troy's Somerset Collec-
tion; Tavern on 13, 13 Mile east
of Southfield Road; Morels, Tele-
graph between 12 and 13; Trat-
toria Bruschetta, Hotel
Baronette in Novi; Relish, 12
Mile between Farmington and
Drake; and America, Woodward
in Royal Oak.
MAIL DEPT. ... From Syd
Harris ... "My wife and I had the
pleasure of dining at the Flam-
ing Kabob Cafe, in Southfield
Plaza, twice. We consider our-
selves mavens when it comes to
Middle Eastern restaurants. I
am sure that we have eaten in
all of them in the southeastern
part of Michigan. As far as we
are concerned, this one is the
best.
"Not only is the food fresh and
delicious, it is so clean that you
could eat off the floor or in the
restrooms, not that you would
want to.
"The owner of this restaurant
is a gentleman named.Mouayad
`Moe' Hermiz. A nicer man you
couldn't meet. He will bend over
backwards to satisfy you."
B'NAI B'RITH hosts its 14th
annual golf classic June 3 ... It'll
be at Edgewood Country Club
this year to help support BB's
youth programs.
Day's event cost of $250 in-
cludes 18 holes of golf, locker
room facilities, range balls and
golf carts, lunch, gifts, prizes,
cocktails and a steak dinner at
an awards banquet ... The din-
ner-and-cocktails-only charge is
$60 ... For information and reser-
vations, call Bobbie Levine at
