DAVID SYME
AND HIS
Roundtable
Honors Two
The American Arabic and Jew-
ish Friends of Metropolitan De-
troit, a program of the Greater
Detroit Interfaith Round Table,
will honor Yousif B. Ghafari and
Alan E. Schwartz at its 10th an-
nual dinner on Sunday, June 9,
at 6:30 p.m. at the Troy Mar-
riott. These two honorees will
be the recipients of the annual
Friends' Community Service
Award.
In addition, Woodrow W.
Woody and Victor G. Ross will be
recipients of the first special
Friends Award in appreciation for
their commitment to the Friends
program for its inception.
Proceeds from the dinner are
used to finance scholarships for
graduating high school seniors
of Arabic and Jewish descent
who write essays on a selected
subject. This year's contest has
a unique approach in that
scholarships will be awarded for
the best essays produced by a
team.
Yousif B. Ghafari, the Arabic
recipient, is the founder, presi-
dent and CEO of Ghafari Asso-
ciates, Inc., full-service
architectural, engineering, plan-
ning and management firm. Mr.
Ghafari, a naturalized American
and U.S. citizen, is of Lebanese
descent. Alan E. Schwartz, the
ewish recipient, is a partner of
the law firm of Honigman,
H Miller, Schwartz & Cohn, of
which he was a founding part-
ner. Both Messrs. Ghafari and
Schwartz's business and com-
munity activities and other hon-
ors are extensive and varied
involving all dimensions of their
business and community life.
