Art awards this year. One of
Adam's was a National Hall-
mark Recognition; he also was
a Hallmark nominee last year.
Neil just received third place in
a JCC AIDS art contest.

Lindsey Alpert
SANDRA G. SCHWARTZ of
Franklin, and a member of the
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Sisterhood, was among the six
metropolitan Detroit volunteers
honored with the Heart of Gold
Award, at United Way Com-
munity Services' Celebrate Vol-
unteers Luncheon. Ms.
Schwartz began volunteering
with Sinai Hospital Guild in-
stalling LifeLine equipment in
the homes of seniors. At the age
of 33 Mrs. Schwartz was diag-
nosed with breast cancer, helped
LINDSEY ALPERT, a 10th
grade honor student at West
Bloomfield High School, won
first place from the Michigan
Society for Medical Research
(MISMR) for her essay on "Why
Animal Testing is Necessary for
Biomedical Research." Lindsey
will receive an award, a plaque
and a savings bond at the state
ceremony in East Lansing.
STUART ITZKOWITZ, an aca-
demic adviser and admissions
counselor in the College of Edu-
cation at Wayne State Univer-
sity, has been selected to receive
the American Counseling Asso-
ciation's Kitty Cole Human
Rights Award. Mr. Itzkowitz, of
Grosse Pointe Park, was honored
for advancing human rights
through his professional work
and community service. A vol-
unteer for more than 25 years,
Mr. Itzkowitz is active in gay, les-
bian and bisexual issues and the
areas of adult children of alco-
holics, African-Americans, Jews,
dysfunctional families, individu-
als with disabilities and the aged.

active volunteer, serving 13
years with the program. In 1993
Ms. Schwartz established the
Breast Cancer Woman to
Woman Support Program at
Sinai Hospital and was elected
to the Sinai Hospital Guild.
