Miles 7:30 p.m. April 15. Mr.
Miles is the author of God: A Bi-
ography, a literary exploration of
the character of God.
Mr. Miles is a columnist and
member of the editorial board of
the Los Angeles Times. A former
Jesuit, he studied at Pontifical
Gregorian University in Rome.

Jack Miles

On April 16, Judith Cantor,
archivist and president of the Jew-
ish Historical Society of Michigan,
will address the noon luncheon
meeting of the Temple Beth El
Beth Elders at the temple.
Mrs. Cantor is the archivist at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek; su-
pervisory archivist for the Philip
Slomovitz collection at WSU's
Reuther Archives; curator for
"The Sinai Heritage," a perma-
nent exhibit at Sinai Hospital;
and "Blacks and Jews: The Michi-
gan Perspective," co-sponsored by
the NAACP, Jewish Community
Council et al at WSU.
A walk through "Detroit Jew-
ish History" is open to the com-
munity. Cost of the luncheon
program is $8; reservation dead-
line is Friday, April 12. For reser-

On Sunday, April 21, the Mid-
dle Years Group of Temple Beth
El will host Dr. Jonathan V.
Plant, the temple's rabbinic schol-
ar, in a discussion of "Intermar-
riage-Blessing or Curse?"
Rabbi Plaut was the senior
rabbi of Temple Emanu-El in San
Jose, Calif, from 1985 to 1993; he
also was adjunct assistant pro-
fessor in the Religious Studies De-
partment at Santa Clara
University in San Jose. Rabbi
Plaut served as senior rabbi at
Congregation Beth El in Wind-
sor, Ontario, from 1970 to 1984.
He also hosted a weekly religious
news program on CBET-TV tele-
vision and CKWW radio.
The 1 p.m. program is open to
the community without charge
and reservations are not needed.
The program will be preceded by
cake and coffee at 12:30 p.m.

Congregation Beth Shalom's En-
hanced Generation will hold a
spring session on Wednesday,
April 17: 9:30 a.m. — bagels and
coffee; 10 a.m. — Rabbi David A.
Nelson will review Jewish As A
Second Language by Molly Katz.
Phyllis Young will lead a group
discussion at 11 a.m.

Senior Events
At The JPM

The Wednesday Afternoon Social
will meet at 1 p.m. at the JPM
JCC. Broadway show tunes and
Yiddish melodies will be pre- —
sented by a troupe of local enter-
tainers. Refreshments will be
served. There is a charge for this
event. Additional volunteer en-
tertainers are being sought. To

Women's Issues with nurse
Sharon Tomaszewski of the Oak-
land County Public Health Divi-
sion will be discussed on Monday,
April 22, at 1 p.m. There is no
charge.

Teen Wheels
Go Camping

Teen Wheels West camping ex-
perience will meet in Denver at
the airport and begin 28 days of
exploring and backpacking this
summer.

Calendar Of Events

The Jewish Feminist Group will
host the Hillel Seventh Annual
Women's Seder for all interested
Jewish women on Monday, April
8, at 7:30 p.m. at Hillel.
Volunteers in Action (VIA Hil-
lel), Hillel's community service
organization, will prepare and
serve dinner to the homeless on
Thursday, April 11, from 3-7:30
p.m. at First Methodist Church
in Ann Arbor. The first shift from
3-5 p.m. will cook food; the sec-
ond shift from 5-7:30 p.m. will
serve food.
On Thursday, April 11,
Shulchan Ivrit will meet.
Reform Chavurah's weekly
meeting will be Thursday, April
11, at 7 p.m. at Hillel.

The Hillel Kosher Cafe at Wayne

and Tuesday, April 9, from 11

HMD's Coffee House Night is

Hillel will be closed Wednes-
