Dr. Covensky
Memorial Set
A memorial service honoring the
extraordinary life and teaching of
Dr. Milton Covensky, a professor
of history at Wayne State Uni-
versity for 40 years, will be held
on Tuesday, April 23, at 4 p.m. at
the McGregor Memorial Confer-
ence Center, on the Wayne State
University campus.
Joining the celebration will be
his widow, Michigan artist Helen
Ciesla Covensky; and their chil-
dren, documentary filmmaker,
Aviva Kempner, and President of
National Multi Housing Council,
Jonathan Kempner.
Dr. Covensky was a Detroit na-
tive. He received his bachelor and
master's degrees in history from
Wayne State University and his
Ph.D in history from the Univer-
sity of Michigan. Dr. Covensky
was noted for his great-book col-
lection and the knowledge he con-
veyed in his courses on
bibliography, historiography, his-
tory and philosophy of great re-
ligions and the history of ideas.
He was a member of the Phi Beta
Kappa Society and a recipient of
the Wayne State University Pres-
ident's Award for Excellence in
Teaching and the Michigan Adult
Education Association Award for
Creative Teaching. He received
the Michigan Adult Education As-
sociation Award for having cre-
ated, organized and directed the
Great Debate, which brought na-
tional speakers to the Wayne
State University campus.
In honor of Professor Coven-
sky, a scholarship has been es-
tablished in his name at Wayne

Shabbat dinner will begin at 7
p.m. Pesach Shabbat lunch will
be from 12-1:30 p.m. and dinner
from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Throughout
the Pesach week, lunch will be
served from 12-1:30 p.m. and din-
ner from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
On Sundays, April 7, 21 there
will be Israeli dancing in the so-
cial lounge of Hillel. On April 7,
Israeli dancing will take place
from 7-8:30 p.m. On April 21, Is-
raeli dancing will be from 6-7:30
p.m. Instructed dancing will take
place for the first hour. The cost
is $2 per person for each dance
event.
Hebrew classes will continue
in the library on Tuesdays from
