After-School
Program Set

Jewish Family Service and the
Jewish Community Center will
offer a second session of the af-
ter-school program for children
with Attention Deficit Hyperac-
tivity Disorder (ADHD).
"Stretch and Reach" will offer
supervised recreation and so-
cialization groups. All program-
ming will be led by trained JCC
recreation and JFS social work
staff. Groups will meet once a
week at each JCC location. JFS
will provide transportation for
the children from school to the
JCC. A series of concurrent par-
enting workshops will provide
support for participating par-
ents.
Registration is being accepted
for the second session beginning
the week of Jan. 26. Register by
Jan. 16. Call Judith Shewach-
Stevenson, (810) 559-1500, for in-
formation.
There is a subsidized fee for
this program. "Stretch and
Reach" is a recipient of the Jew-
' ish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit's Max M. Fisher Jewish
Op, Community Foundation.

Educators
Set Workshop

The Agency for Jewish Education
will host grade 5 Jewish educa-
0. tors to a workshop, "Helping
Hands Curriculum Training and
Tzedakah Experience Prepara-
tion," on Thursday, Jan. 18, 7-9
p.m. at the Agency for Jewish Ed-
ucation in Southfield. This ses-
sion will prepare all 5th grade
teachers for the annual commu-
nity-wide Tzedakah Experience
Om to be held in March.
From 7-8 p.m., participants
will learn about specific roles as-
sisting with activities at the event
and will receive an orientation to
the program, including a new for-
mat and many new activities.
The second part of the work-
shop is for 5th grade teachers
01' who will be teaching for the first
time, "Helping Hands: A Cur-
riculum Unit for Making a Dif-
ference." Teachers will learn how
to effectively use the unit in the
classroom. The grade 5 Penny
Harvest project, which is part of
the Tzedakah Experience, will
also be explained.
The workshop will be present-
ed by Shawn Locke, director of
school services at the AJE and
author ofHelping Hands. An op-
tional kosher dinner will be avail-
able from 6:15-7 p.m. There is no
fee for the workshop; however,
there is a fee for dinner.
Participants will receive two
NIRIM units and must sign up
with their school director. For in-
