Temple eth El Religious School
will kick o its reading program
with a Family Book Fair Sunday,
Jan. 21, 9:30-12:30 p.m. at the
temple.
The Religious School is start-
ing a reading contest to encour-
age children to read more about
their heritage. Those who read
more than five books of Jewish
content between Jan. 21 and May
1, will receive books as prizes.
A book fair will be presented by
Books & More. Books of Jewish
content geared primarily to pre-
school through junior high will be
on sale as well as books for the
family. Authors will be present to
autograph their books. From 9:45-
10:45 a.m., psychiatrist and au-
thor Dr. Reuven Bar-Levav will
discuss the importance of good
parenting skills. From 11-11:45
a.m., storyteller and author Ina
R. Friedman will entertain 4th-
6th graders.
There is a charge.

The Department of Michigan,
Jewish War Veterans of the Unit-
ed States of America and the
Ladies Auxiliary will make avail-
able annual Michigan college
scholarships in the amount of
$500 each.
There are no restrictions as to
race, color, religion, sex or creed.
Any veteran of the American
Armed Forces, his or her son or
daughter, or grandchild is eligible.
Need for financial assistance
should be paramount.
Applicants may include stu-
dents attending accredited insti-
tutions of higher learning on a
college level as well as members
of the January or June 1996 high
school graduating classes. Schol-
arships are good only in the state
of Michigan.
The qualified student should
immediately write a letter re-
questing scholarship information

Share Shabbat
Single Jewish mothers and their
children are invited to a Shabbat
dinner at the home of Barbara
Klein in West Bloomfield Friday,
Jan. 19, at 6:30 p.m. Families will
partake of a traditional Shabbat
dinner and share in the rituals
and beauty of the end of the week.
This Shabbat experience is offered
by the Institute For Single Jew-
ish Mothers (ISJM).

adults and $3 for children for the

Temple Israel Brotherhood at a
breakfast on Sunday, Jan. 14, at
9:30 a.m. Mr. Levin recently spent
two weeks in Israel and will dis-
cuss his impressions of the polit-
ical and social mood of the Jewish
state in the aftermath of the as-
sassination of Prime Minister
Yitzhak Rabin.
