Benjamin Hurwitz, an 11th grade
student at West Bloomfield High
School, will perform in the pro-
duction of Andrew Lloyd Web-
ber's Jesus Christ Superstar at
the Louis E. Schmidt Auditori-
um in Livonia. The show will
open Thursday, July 20, and in-
cludes several Broadway stars
who are originally from Detroit.
Other show dates include: July
21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29 and 30. Per-
forming will be Les Miserable's,
Daniel C. Cooney, originally from
Westland, and Blood Brother's,
Kent Dalian, originally from Ply-
mouth.
Ben will perform the role of Si-
mon. He has played roles in sev-
eral high school performances.
The show, spearheaded by
Jumpstart the Arts, is part of an
outreach program created and
designed to bring young local pro-
fessionals, Broadway performers
and others in the performing arts
industry together. Its mission is
to create a supportive and edu-
cational environment for both
students and professionals to ex-
press themselves creatively.

Book Groups
At Borders

Borders Books & Music in Farm-
ington Hills will hold three book
discussion groups this month.
One group focuses on Jewish au-
thors and topics, one on general
literature, and one on gay/lesbian
issues and authors. They meet in
the Cafe Espresso. Free coffee is
provided and there is no charge
for attending.
Jewish Authors and Topics
will meet Monday, July 17, at
7:30 p.m. to discuss The Mezuzah
in the Madonna's Foot by Trudi
Alexy.
The general literature group
will meet Wednesday, July 26, at
7:30 p.m. to discuss A Thousand
Acres by Jane Smiley.
The gay and lesbian book
group will meet Monday, July 31,
at 7:30 p.m. to discuss C.P.
Cavafy: Collected Poems.
