inai Hospital offers a variety of health
education programs, support groups
and services. There is no charge for
the following programs and services
unless otherwise noted. Programs and
services are held at locations throughout
metropolitan Detroit.

Health and Fitness
Support Programs
Arthritis Self Help Course (ASHC)
Co-sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation and
Sinai's Department of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation, ASHC is a six-week program for
individuals with arthritis and others close to
them. Topics covered include energy conser-
vation, exercise, relaxation and nutrition. A
$20.00 fee supports the Arthritis Foundation.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
This state-of-the-art rehabilitation program has
been developed for those who have had bypass
surgery, a heart attack or have been diagnosed
for heart disease. This ongoing program is held
at Sinai's Blumberg Health Center and is cov-
ered by most insurance programs. For infor-

Cardiovascular Fitness Evaluation
The Cardiovascular Fitness Evaluation has been
developed for individuals who want to find out
their overall fitness level. The evaluation in-
cludes blood work, medical history, body fat
analysis, treadmill fitness test and exercise pre-
scription. The program is held at Sinai Hospi-
tal's Cardiovascular Fitness Center in the
Blumberg Health Center. For fee and other in-

Childbirth and Family Life Education
Sinai Hospital offers numerous classes in child-
birth and family life education both at Sinai
Hospital and at various settings in the com-
munity. Among the classes offered are: Pre-
pared Childbirth, VBAC (Vaginal Birth After
Caesarean), CPR, Parenting and many others.

Diabetes Education
The Diabetes Outpatient Education Program
will help the person with diabetes, their fami-
ly, and significant others learn about diabetes
and needed self-management skills. The pro-
gram fee is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, HAP,
and several other insurance programs. Profes-
sionals can participate in this program and re-
ceive CEU credit. For more information or to

Freedom from Smoking
Sinai Hospital co-sponsors "Freedom from
Smoking," a program of the American Lung
Association of Michigan. The eight-week pro-
gram begins with a free orientation. Partici-
pants who wish to continue with the program
pay $65 following orientation. To register or to
find out the date of the next orientation session,

Health and Wellness Program
NICU Parents Support Group
This program is designed for those who don't
have heart disease and want to get started on
a plan to improve their overall fitness. For fee
and other information, contact the Cardiovas-
cular Fitness Center at (313) 493-6333.
This support group is directed to parents of in-
fants in Sinai Hospital's Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU).

Pregnancy Loss Support Group
Adult Caregiver Support Group
Pregnancy Loss Support Groups will be held
at the Bloomfield Township Library. For more

This group offers support to adult caregivers
who are caring for a loved one who is sick or dis-
abled. Meetings are held from 3-4:30 p.m. at the
the Jewish Community Center (JCC) Maple/
Drake Bldg., Functional Recovery Program
classroom, second floor, 6600 West Maple,
West Bloomfield, and at Sinai Hospital in
the West Conference Room (near Zuckerman
Auditorium).

Pregnancy After Loss Support Group
The Pregnancy After Loss Support Group is
available by request and meetings are held when
enough families are interested. For information,

Schizophrenics Anonymous
This support group is directed to schizophrenic
individuals. For information, call (313) 493-6850.

Heart to Heart
This support group offers topical information
on healthy lifestyles for heart patients and their
families.

Stepping Stones Stroke Club
The Stepping Stones Stroke Club is directed at
individuals who have had a stroke.

Times and Dates: 6:30 p.m. on the first
Tuesday of the month and 1:30 p.m. on the
- third Wednesday of the month.

Living with Cancer
This support group is directed to individuals
with a diagnosis of cancer, their families and
friends. A series of five weekly sessions with
guests speakers is offered quarterly. There is
no charge, however, preregistration is required.

Premarital Counseling Classes
Monthly classes are offered at a variety of
suburban locations. Attendance at this class
meets the requirements for the certificate need-
ed for a Michigan marriage license. HIV and
other sexually transmitted diseases will be dis-
cussed. Couples will receive some free gifts and
information about Sinai services during the
class. Registration is available by telephone at
1-800-248-3627. There is a $20 fee per couple
for this class.
