Spring Dinner

Comedian and practicing pedia-
trician Dr. Stuart C. Silverstein
will be the guest speaker at a
Maimonides Spring Dinner on
Tuesday, May 9, at the Sheraton
Inn in Ann Arbor at 7 p.m. Dr.
Silverstein will speak on "Humor
and Medicine? ... You Must be
Joking! A Look at the Healing
Power of Humor and the Lighter
Side of Medicine." His presenta-
tion will be a cross between a
stand-up comedy performance
and a lecture.
Based in San Francisco, Dr.
Silverstein is both a pediatrician
in the Bay Area and a profes-
sional stand-up comedian. In
1990, Dr. Silverman was the re-
gional winner of the Merritt
Comedy Competition and last
year was the winner of the
Kosher Comedy Competition at
San Francisco's Great American
Music Hall.
Dr. Silverstein consults with
healthcare professionals on the
appropriate use of humor in their
practices and presents work-
shops and lectures around the
nation on humor in the medical
workplace.
The Maimonides Society is an
organization of Jewish physi-
cians and dentists under the
Jewish Federation of Washte-
naw County. Their purpose is to
strengthen the bonds between
themselves, the Jewish commu-
nity and Israel through educa-

activities.
Tickets for the dinner are $40
per person. To receive an invita-
tion, call the Federation, 677-
