Silverstein will be the guest speaker at a Maimonides Spring Dinner on Tuesday, May 9, at the Sheraton Inn in Ann Arbor at 7 p.m. Dr. Silverstein will speak on "Humor and Medicine? ... You Must be Joking! A Look at the Healing Power of Humor and the Lighter Side of Medicine." His presenta- tion will be a cross between a stand-up comedy performance and a lecture. Based in San Francisco, Dr. Silverstein is both a pediatrician in the Bay Area and a profes- sional stand-up comedian. In 1990, Dr. Silverman was the re- gional winner of the Merritt Comedy Competition and last year was the winner of the Kosher Comedy Competition at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. Dr. Silverstein consults with healthcare professionals on the appropriate use of humor in their practices and presents work- shops and lectures around the nation on humor in the medical workplace. The Maimonides Society is an organization of Jewish physi- cians and dentists under the Jewish Federation of Washte- naw County. Their purpose is to strengthen the bonds between themselves, the Jewish commu- nity and Israel through educa- tion, social and philanthropic activities. Tickets for the dinner are $40 per person.
