Temple Israel will host the Har-
ry Laker Memorial Concert Sun-
day, March 26, at 3:30 p.m. Titled
"Tales of Childhood," the concert
offers three stories from Jewish
literature with musical composi-
tions by Scott Stern Guest artists
include Evelyn Orbach, narrator;
Cantor Harold Orbach, tenor;
Cheryl Bensman Rowe, mezzo-
soprano; Martha Warren, sopra-
no; and Crystal Webster, soprano.
Also featured will be the De-
troit Dance Collective, directed
by Paula Kramer; The Temple Is-
rael Choir, directed by Ellen Dun-
can; the Temple Israel Choral
Group and Junior Choir, direct-
ed by Elaine Greenberg, along
with musical accompaniment.
Co-sponsored by the Temple's
Couples Club, this program is
dedicated to the memory of
Danielle Brenner who was to
have sung at this concert.

On Sunday, March 19, at 7:30
p.m., the Birmingham Temple
Vivace Committee will present
the southeastern Michigan debut
of the Bergonzi String Quartet.
Since 1991, the Quartet has
been quartet is residence at the
University of Miami for the Fes-
tival Miami, and visiting quartet
at the Society of the four Arts in
Palm Beach.
Prior to coming together as the
Bergonzi Quartet, performers
Thomasz Liebig, violin; Glenn
Basham, violin; Pamela Mc-
Connell, viola; and Ross Har-
baugh, cello, appeared in three
major American quartets. There
will be an afterglow with the per-
formers following the concert.

Sings At JCC

Craig Taubman of Craig 'N Co.
will perform at the Maple/Drake
Jewish Community Center on
Sunday, May 7, at 3:30 p.m. His
styles include pop, rock and re-
ligious music, national commer-
cials and children's musicals.
Combining Hebrew and Eng-
lish lyrics, his songs bridge tra-
ditional Jewish themes and
ancient teachings with contem-
porary Jewish life. His has nine
Jewish recordings.
