beat until smooth. Stir in the
peanut butter cup pieces. Pour
filling into crust. Bake until sides
of cake are set but center still
moves slightly, about 55 min.
Cool cake in pan 10 min. Blend
together sour cram, sugar and
vanilla. Carefully spoon topping
over the cheese cake. Return
cake to oven and bake 5 to 7 min.
Cool cheesecake on rack. Run a
sharp knife around the edge of
the cheese cake to loosen. Cover
and refrigerate at least 4 hours
are preferably overnight. Serves

The American Jewish Commit-
tee, Detroit Chapter will recog-
nize Mary Shapero at a Tribute
Brunch, 11 a.m. Oct. 23 at Tem-
ple Beth El. She will receive the
American Jewish Committee's
Distinguished Community Ser-
vice Award. Howard A. Gilbert,
honorary vice president of the
American Jewish Committee,
will present the award; Michael
Medved, syndicated film critic
and author, will speak.
Mary Shapero serves on the
national board of governors of
AJC and the advisory board of
Friends of the Detroit Public Li-
brary. She provides leadership
for the Planned Parenthood
League (and Federation of Amer-
ica), League of Women Voters of
Detroit and Jewish Vocational
Service. She serves as chair of
the Rabbi Leo M. Franklin
Memorial Fund and co-chair of
the Ruth Franklin Einstein Ed-
ucation Assistance Fund.

Events Planned
Jewish Experiences For Families
will sponsor two pre-holiday
events for newcomers from the
former Soviet Union. Students in
grades 8-12 are invited to an end-
of-summer event at the Water-
ford Wave Pool, 1-6 p.m. Aug. 28.
There is a fee.
Family and friends of all ages
are welcome to a family holiday
workshop, 7-8 p.m. Aug. 29 at
Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park.
Participants will explore the tra-
ditions and symbols of Rosh
Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot
and Simchat Torah with Rabbi
Amy Brodsky and Cantor Nor-
man Rose. There is no charge.
