Helen Horowitz-Begun

Helen D. Horowitz-Begun, 80,
of Southfield, died Aug. 7. She
and her late husband Louis were
partners in the wholesale gro-
cery business for their 47 years
of marriage.
Her interest in helping young
people was reflected in her sup-
port as a major contributor to
the Louis A. Horowitz Memori-
al Youth Fund at Young Israel
of Oak-Woods, which each year
sponsors an essay contest. In
recognition of her devoted ef-
forts, the fund is being renamed
the Louis A. and Helen D.
Horowitz Memorial Youth
Fund.
She also was a worker for
many causes, many of which are
reflected in her associations
within the Jewish community:
Hadassah, B'nai B'rith Women,
ORT, ADL, JARC, Bar-Ilan and
the Shaare Zedek Hospital.
One of the sharpest memories
her family has is of Louis recit-
ing the Ayshet Chayil prayer to
her each Friday night. "Her
family saw her as fulfilling those
qualities and truly being a role

model as a Woman of Valor,"
said Rabbi Irwin Groner.
She is survived by her second
husband, Max Begun; daugh-
ters and son-in-law, Elaine
Block Victor and Randall Victor
of West Bloomfield; sons and [_\
daughters-in-law, Herbert and
Carol Horowitz of Princeton,

She worked for
many communal
causes, including
ORT, ADL and JARC.

N.J., Michael and Barbara
Horowitz of Bloomfield Hills;
brother, Harold Zalla of North
Miami, Fla.; sisters and broth-
ers-in-law, Gertrude and Julius
Hirschman of Southfield, Jean
Stolsky of West Bloomfield, Lil-
lian Zalenko of Farmington
Hills, Sylvia and Dr. David
Keats of Southfield; 10 grand-
children.

ROBERT EVAN BECKEIR, 62,
of San Francisco, formerly of De-
troit, died Aug. 2. He leaves his
sister and brother-in-law, Bar-
bara and Herbert Keidan of
Birmingham; nieces and
nephews.

MARILYN JOY CHABEN, 62,
of West Bloomfield, died Aug. 5.
She leaves her husband, Marvin;

law, Lisa and Douglas Krieger of
West Bloomfield; brother and sis-
ter-in-law, Jerome and Rosalind

HAROLD H. GOLDBERG, 76,
former Detroiter of Tallahassee,
Fla., died July 31. He leaves his
wife, Dorothy; daughters and son-
in-law, Anita and Ed Hufft of
Louisville, Ky., Nancy Bodiford
of Tallahassee; brothers and sis-
ters-in-law, Albert and Sonya of
Farmington Hills, Dr. Sidney and
