American Heart Association WE'RE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE Helen Horowitz-Begun Helen D. Horowitz-Begun, 80, of Southfield, died Aug. 7. She and her late husband Louis were partners in the wholesale gro- cery business for their 47 years of marriage. Her interest in helping young people was reflected in her sup- port as a major contributor to the Louis A. Horowitz Memori- al Youth Fund at Young Israel of Oak-Woods, which each year sponsors an essay contest. In recognition of her devoted ef- forts, the fund is being renamed the Louis A. and Helen D. Horowitz Memorial Youth Fund. She also was a worker for many causes, many of which are reflected in her associations within the Jewish community: Hadassah, B'nai B'rith Women, ORT, ADL, JARC, Bar-Ilan and the Shaare Zedek Hospital. One of the sharpest memories her family has is of Louis recit- ing the Ayshet Chayil prayer to her each Friday night. "Her family saw her as fulfilling those qualities and truly being a role model as a Woman of Valor," said Rabbi Irwin Groner. She is survived by her second husband, Max Begun; daugh- ters and son-in-law, Elaine Block Victor and Randall Victor of West Bloomfield; sons and [_\ daughters-in-law, Herbert and Carol Horowitz of Princeton, She worked for many communal causes, including ORT, ADL and JARC.
