Mr. Friedman has more than
15 years of news media experi-
ence including 10 years as a re-
porter, photographer, news writer
and editor at television and radio
stations in major Midwest mar-
kets.
SIX AWARDS, including four
first-place honors, were present-
ed to Detroit's Anthony M. Fran-
co Inc. public relations counselors
at the International Association
of Business Communicators
(IABC)/Detroit Renaissance
Awards ceremonies. The Detroit
chapter of the IABC honors De-
troit-based companies with its an-
nual Renaissance Awards.
Franco first-places came in
Special Events (for a media re-
lations marketing program for the
Geo METRO EconoRun and an
alternative investment series on
behalf of the Bank of Bloomfield
Hills); Graphic Design, Non-Pub-
lication (for a 1957 Chevy tail fin
graphic on behalf of the Hop); and
Special Print Communications-
Four Color (for a promotional
brochure on behalf of the Martha
W. Griffiths Michigan Rare Book
Room).
The second place came in Spe-
cial Print Communications-Four
Color (for a marketing brochure
created for the Detroit Sports
Commission). Franco also earned
an honorable mention in Graph-
ic Design, Publications (for mag-
azine covers designed for the
International Programmable
Controllers and the Engineering
Society).
MARS ADVERTISING of
Southfield won two awards in the
49th annual Advertising Art &
Design Exhibition sponsored by
the Scarab Club. Two ads and a
brochure produced for the Se-
lectCare, SelectAdvantage health
care plan were honored. Mars re-
ceived a first-place medal for the
ads and a second-place medal for
the brochure in the Advertising
and Institutional divisions, re-
spectively, of the Design Catego-
ry. Agencies from Michigan and
Windsor were eligible to submit
entries which had been produced
between January 1993 and May
1994.
FORMER SOUTHFIELD
resident Marilyn Gordon Dress-
er has opened a new Art Kalei-
doscope Gallery at 15 Salzburg
Road in her hometown of Bay
City. The gallery, formerly locat-
ed at 512 North Lincoln in Bay
City, specializes in art for the
home and art to wear, including
one-of-a-kind kaleidoscopes.
Artists from Michigan and across
the country are featured. Ms. Gor-
don Dresser also has a collection
of work by selected artists at Ar-
tisan's Gallery in Saginaw. El
