JASON M. GOLNICK of West
Bloomfield received his doctor of
dental surgery degree from the
University of Michigan School of
Dentistry. Jason was also the re-
cipient of the Pierre Fauchard
Academy Award and the Ameri-
can Dental Society of Anesthesi-
ology Award. He plans to asso-
ciate in general dental practice
in the Detroit metropolitan area.

REBECCA BRODER of Hunt-
ington Woods will graduate cum
laude with a degree in Judaic
studies from the University of
Cincinnati. Ms. Broder has been
awarded the David Green Memo-
rial Award. for Academic Achieve-
ment and Jewish Communal Ser-
vice.

MAX FISHER, leading indus-
trialist and philanthropist, was
honored at United Way for
Southeastern Michigan's 45th an-
nual board meeting for receiving
the 1994 Alexis de Tocqueville
award, United Way of America's
top national volunteer award. De-
troit mayor Dennis Archer and
Alan E. Schwartz, past United
Way chairman of the board, rec-
ognized Mr. Fisher's great con-
tributions to metropolitan Detroit
and Michigan, as well as the rest
of the world.

EZRA AND DEVRA
WANETIK of West Bloomfield
will soon leave for Israel. Ezra
will begin a year in Israel follow-
ing his graduation from West
Bloomfield High School. Devra
will spend the summer in Israel
on programs sponsored by the
World Zionist Youth Federation
and United Synagogue Youth.
After a summer studying at
Hebrew University, Ezra will be-
gin the Native program, USY's
post-high school year.
Devra, after time in Italy
studying Jewish history, will con-
tinue by ship to Israel to help re-
enact an illegal immigrant land-
ing.

HAL CANTOR has received his
Ph. D. in bio-medical engineer-
ing from the University of Michi-
gan. Dr. Cantor also is the recip-
ient of the 1993 - 94 National
Young Investigator of the year
award.

ELLEN J. SCHOENFELD of
Farmington Hills will have an ex-
hibition of her fine art photogra-
phy at the University of Michi-
gan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Ms.
Schoenfeld has a master's of
graphic design from Eastern
Michigan University.

Oscar S. Straus, a lawyer
who was better known as a
diplomat and secretary of
commerce and labor, was the
second American appointed
to the International Court of
Arbitration at The Hague,
serving from 1908 to 1920.
