Women's League
Honors Youth

The League of Jewish Women's
Organizations of Greater De-
troit will present their 49th An-
nual Youth Awards Program
1:30 p.m. April 24 at Congre-
gation Beth Achim. A reception
will follow the awards cermony.
The guest speaker will be Zel-
da Robinson, who was the first
recipient of the Youth Awards.
The awards are sponsored by
Grant and Betty Silverfarb, and
the League Of Jewish Women's
Organizations Youth Award
and Tribute Fund.
The 31 semi-finalists, each a
graduating high school senior,
have demonstrated academic
excellence, continued their re-
ligious education, and are ac-
tively participating in
community service. Each can-
didate is sponsored by a com-
munity organization. The
candidates wrote an essay on
the 1994 theme, "How Do You
Intend To Maintain Your Jew-
ish Identity During Your Col-
lege Years, and, Why Is This
Important To You?"
The following are the semi-
finalists, listed by their high

Hears Of Rights

"Issues of the Radical Right in-
Schools and the First Amend-
ment" will be the topic
addressed by Lynn Shecter, at-
torney and chairperson of the
Oakland County branch of the
ACLU, at the next general
meeting of the Glennwood
Chapter of Women's American
ORT 7:30 p.m. April 27 in the
home of Susan Richards of
Farmington Hills. Election of
officers for the 1994-1995 year
will be held prior to the pro-

COTS; 1 p.m. lunch at Carl's
Chop House; 6 p.m. - Dinner at
Memorial Home; 8 p.m. - De-
partment meeting.

Grant Aids
Camp Program

The Fresh Air Society is the re-
cipient of a $40,000 grant from
the Skillman Foundation ear-
marked for its Silverman Vil-
lage program for emotionally
impaired children at Camp
Maas.
Silverman Village is a sum-
mer residential camping pro-
gram for children aged 6-14
with mild to moderate behavior
problems.
The goals of the program are
to help children become more
positive in their interactions
with others, more responsive to
realistic limits and expectations,
more responsible for their be-
havior, and more confident of
their ability to be successful.
Silverman Village accepts
about 35 campers to each of its
three 17-day sessions. The
camper to staff ratio is two to
one. The director of the program
is Dr. Barbara Vedder, a special
education consultant to Wayne
County Intermediate School
District.
