abbi Mayer Rabinowitz will ap-
ply the teachings of Halachah
(Jewish Law) to a number of top-
ics at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
"How Do We Make Decisions To-
day, When We Have Logic & Science
on the One Hand and Tradition on
the Other?" will be the subject of the
two-day Encounter Weekend program
April 15-16 planned and organized by
the synagogue's Adult Study Com-
mission.
The first of three programs with
Rabbi Rabinowitz will be a lunch and
learn event 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. April
15.At that time the scholar, who is li-
brarian at the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America as well as an as-
sociate professor of Talmud, will
launch the weekend exploration with
a talk on "Tradition Versus Logic."
At Shabbat morning services April
16, he will deliver a sermon on "Deal-
ing With Jews Who Are Different
From Us."
At a Shabbat luncheon program fol-
lowing Kiddush, Rabbi Rabinowitz
will consider "Is Hospice Permissible?
Can We Withhold Medication and
Treatment?"
Rabbi Rabinowtiz has written sev-
eral editions of medieval halachic
works and has received a National
Defense Foreign Language Fellow-
ship, a Memorial Foundation grant,
and a fellowship from the Herbert
Lehman Institute for Talmudic Is-
sues.
All programs are open to the com-
munity. There are charges for each of
the luncheons. Reservations must be
received by April 11. For information

na Sakalovs mission will host ceramicist Lor-
ky and photographer/painter Denise Susman. Both artists
will speak about their work, about living in Jerusalem, and about the
inspiration of working in the Old City.
Lorna Sakalovsky has created a series of menorot, each repre
sent-
ing a different Jewish theme or a combination of themes.

them by the
oxides,
the individual parts by hand to the

Denise Susman's art captures the bright light which illuminates Is-
