Aharon Appelfeld
Aharon Appelfeld, Israeli au-
thor, will be the Theodore and
Mina Bargman Scholar at Tem-
ple Beth El, April 17 at 10 a.m.
In an address open to the com-
munity at no charge, Mr. Ap-
pelfeld will discuss "My Life, My
Work."
Mr. Appelfeld escaped from
a Nazi labor camp and emi-
grated to Israel where he com-
pleted his studies, served in the
army and earned a degree at
the Hebrew University in
Jerusalem. Since 1976, he has
been professor of Hebrew liter-
ature at the Ben Gurion Uni-
versity in the Negev.

Commemoration
Of Uprising
The Workmen's Circle/Arbeter
Ring will hold its annual War-
saw Ghetto Uprising Commem-
oration 7:30 p.m. April 19 at the
Workmen's Circle Educational
Center, 26341 Coolidge, Oak
Park. The principal speaker will
be Arlene Frank. Ms. Frank,
who is the child of a survivor, will
speak on "Who Will Bear Wit-
ness When the Witnesses are
Gone?" Singer Ruth Savage will
perform.
The program will include:
candle lighting, readings in Yid-
dish and English, community
singing of partisan songs. The
public is welcome. There is no
charge.

toria and Albert Museum in
London, and an assistant cura-
tor at the Renwick Gallery of
the Smithsonian Institution. He
has combined his academic ex-
pertise and family background
in the antiques business to de-
velop a gallery in Skokie, Ill.,
with the largest collection of Ju-
daica west of New York.
Mr. Feldman also will ex-
plore the history of family Ju-
daica heirlooms of unknown
origin which attendees bring to
the program.
The Campaign Quarter Cen-
tury Club, is comprised of indi-
viduals who have supported the
annual community-wide effort
non-stop for 25 years. The Club
provides members with period-
ic updates on Federation, in-
formation of archival interest
and occasional special events.
There is a charge for the pro-
gram, but there will be no so-
licitation of gifts for the Allied
Jewish Campaign. For infor-

Arthur Feldman
"Form and Faith, Jewish Art
and Artifacts from Biblical to
Present Times" will be featured
at the Campaign Quarter Cen-
tury Club gathering 7:30 p.m.
April 25, at the Max M. Fisher
Building.
Arthur Feldman, an expert
on Jewish antiquities, will pre-
sent a slide lecture at the
dessert event.
Mr. Feldman has served for
12 years as director of Chicago's
Spertus Museum ofJudaica. He

will be the speaker for the 2
p.m. April 10 Spring lecture
sponsored for the community
by the Shaarey Zedek Seniors
at the synagogue.
Professor Endelman, a spe-
cialist in Anglo-Jewish history
and social history of Western
European Jewry in the modern
period will discuss "The Future
of the American Jewish Com-
munity."
Professor Endelman is the
author of publications for which
he has received the National
Jewish Book Award for histo-
ry.
The annual lecture, endowed
by the Bess and Erwin Korn-
wise Memorial Fund, is open to
the public at no charge. ❑
