Temple Beth El pre-kinder-

graders, who are beginning re-
ligious school for the first time,
were honored recently. They are

Jewish students, many of Russ-
ian birth, will learn about their
heritage at a lunch and learn
program sponsored by Friends
of Refugees of Eastern Europe.
Rabbi Hershel Finman, out-
reach director at Lubavitch
Foundation, will discuss Jew-
ish topics of interest to teen-
agers.
The program will be held the
first and third Mondays of each
month at noon at Berkley High.
Students are asked to bring
their lunches to room 126;
FREE will provide the dessert.
BBYO Teens
Aid Agencies
Michigan Region B'nai B'rith
Youth Organization has a pro-
gram titled TASC — Teens Ac-
tively Serving Communities.
Michigan BBYO has chosen
two agencies on which to focus
its efforts — the Jewish Associ-
ation for Residential Care
(JARC) and the Orchards Chil-
dren's Service.
BBYOers will work in the
agencies in November after go-
ing through a training session
to learn how each agency oper-
ates and what work will be in-
volved in each.
Participating chapters will
earn credit toward the AZA
Chai Club and BBG Mitzvah
Club awards, which recognize
hours of service to the commu-

Teen Connection
Plays Whirlyball
The BBYO/JCC Teen Connec-
tion, a program for Jewish 7th
and 8th graders, will play
whirlyball 4-6 p.m. Nov. 7 at
Whirlyball on Drake Road.

Torah Study
Starts Nov. 4
Rabbi William Gershon will
teach at the Conservative Move-
ment Torah Study Nov. 4 start-
ing at 12:30 p.m. The group is
sponsored by the Jewish The-
ological Seminary, Michigan
Region United Synagogue and
the Michigan Region Rabbini-
cal Assembly.
Study sessions are held every
Thursday in the first floor con-
ference area of the Max M.
Fisher Jewish Federation
Building. There is no charge for
the class; lunch is available at
a charge starting at noon.
No prior background is re-
quired; each study session is self
contained.

Mr. Bush is an author and he
edits Reconstructionism Today
for the Reconstructionist Move-
