Pianist Opens
Music Series
The Julius Chajes Music Fund
Concert Series will open the
1993-94 season 7 p.m. Oct. 24
at Maple-Drake. Featured in
this concert will be Stephen
Prutsman, pianist, in a program
featuring the music of Bach,
Chajes, Beethoven and Rach-
maninoff.
Mr. Prutsman was a 1990
medalist at the Tchaikovsky
International Piano Compe-
tition in Moscow and in 1991
he was awarded the Avery
Fisher Career Grant. Later
that same year he was
awarded the Second Prize
Gold Medal at the Queen
Elizabeth International Pi-
ano Competition in Belgium.
A native of Los Angeles,
Mr. Prutsman attended the
University of California at
Los Angeles. He also studied
at the Peabody Conservatory
in Baltimore. Mr. Prutsman
is a veteran of the concert cir-
cuit and has performed in
recital and with orchestras
throughout the United
States, Europe, Latin Amer-
ica and the Far East.

discussed by three educators
working in the Jewish com-
munity.
Geri Levit , host and pro-
ducer of the show, will inter-
view Doris August,
representing ORT. The sec-
ond guest is Nancy Kaplan,
representing the Agency for
Jewish Education and the
Midrasha. The third guest is
Michael Wolf, educational di-
rector of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.

Auction Benefits
City Of Hope
The Sophie and Harry Hoffman
Chapter for City of Hope Na-
tional Medical Center will host
a fine art auction in conjunction
with Park West Gallery 6:30
p.m. Nov. 4, at Temple Beth El.
The evening will begin
with a wine and cheese pre-
view followed by the auction
at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the
preview carries a charge; ad-
mission to the auction is free.
The auction will feature
original paintings, watercol-
ors and hand-signed limited
edition graphic works of art
by over 40 artists. Selections
include pieces by Cezanne,
Chagall, Dali, Durer, Erte,
Goya, Miro, Picasso and Rem-
brandt, as well as works from
the collections of several liv-
ing artists.
Southfield-based Park
West Gallery has completely
catalogued the collection; all
works will be sold with a cer-
tificate of authenticity.
A percentage of the pro-
ceeds from the fine art auc-
tion will benefit City of Hope
National Medical Center and
Beckman Research Institute.
