look wonderful for this event," says Ms. Lin-
der.
One package is a two-day treatment which
includes skin care, make-up application, man-
icure, pedicure and massage.
Massages take about sixty to ninety min-
utes and cost $40 to $50 (add another $15 to
$20 if the massage practitioner comes to your
home). Make sure the person giving the mas-
sage is certified by the state. And note that
massage affects everyone differently; you
might feel the results for a week or just a day.
Of course, anyone with severe wedding
stress needs more than a good massage.
Don't grab a pill or a cold martini. When you
feel so overwhelmed that your daily routine
is being disrupted, you need to seek profes-
sional help from your personal physician. He
or she might recommend a psychologist or
psychiatrist.
Perhaps the most comforting aspect of wed-
ding stress is that it ends with the wedding.
Then, of course, there's marriage stress... ❑

SET ECTING A
WEDDING RING

Selecting a wedding ring is, for many, the first
opportunity to buy a piece of fine jewelry, one
that will last forever.
It is helpful to understand some of the ba-
sic information on wedding jewelry before
you begin shopping for rings.
The type of ring that is best for you de-
pends on the shape of your hand. Large hands
can carry a bold, free-form design, while a nar-
row band with a single stone is more appro-
priate to a smaller hand.
The per-carat price of a ring featuring a
gem is determined by the cutting, color and
clarity of the stone.
A fine one-half carat gem will cost more
than an inferior one-carat gem.
Most stones are faceted, or carved, to al-
low a maximum of brilliance and shine.
Clarity describes the presence or absence
of blemishes. If, when a stone is magnified
ten times, no imperfections are visible, it is
flawless.
Channel set refers to stones set in parallel
grooves for a sculptured look. A fiety shine is
achieved when stones are held individually
by metal teeth in a pronged setting.
All of the guidelines will help you in your
decision.
However, stone, style and setting are yours
to determine, according to your own idea of
what makes up the perfect ring for you. 111
