JENNIFER FINER SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH NEWS

ost of the Tamarack campers get to leave camp for a
pilgrimage down the mighty Huron River and an
adventurous night in the wilderness. Well, it is not as
daring and dangerous as it sounds but either way,
these Dorm One campers really liked the trip. On
July 22, 1992, this group of 29 soon-to-be fourth
graders and their counselors packed up their sleeping
bags and bug spray, collected firewood, and
loaded the big green Tamarack bus.
Within 45 minutes, these young Dorm
One campers were unloading their provi-
sions at the campsite and were ready to hit
the river.
A caravan of 11 canoes lined the banks of
the Huron and campers and counselors
paddled, sang songs and dodged the occa
sional rain showers.
Once they made it back to the campsite,
the counselors quickly started a fire and,
cf) thanks to smart thinking, leaving the wood
• in a tent to keep it dry, starting the camp-
L,..
= fire was not difficult.
=
U, Jobs were divided and some campers
• made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches;
some cut vegetables and others helped cook
- the spaghetti.
Everyone generally agreed dinner was
1 fantastic and what campfire would be complete without s'mores.
After a long day everyone was exhausted and settled into tents to
..,
=
spend
a night with nature.
1—
In the morning breakfast was made, tents were taken down and
campers returned to camp after bonding with nature.
