lege student's
interests.
Listed below are summer
programs sponsored by a
variety of organizations
(winter and year-round
study programs are also
available but not included
here). Many of the pro-
grams have not set their
prices yet; for those that
have, prices as well as
dates are subject to
change.

zation. American Zionist
Youth Foundation (AZYF)

Betar Bar/Bat Mit-
zvah Tour is for .1.2-13-
year-olds. This 5-week
tour of Israel has a spe-
cial bar/bat mitzvah cele-
bration at the Western
Wall in Jerusalem. Dates
are July 1 to August 6.
Israel Teen Tour is
for 14-18-year-olds. This
5-week trip features stay-
ing in the Jewish Quarter
of Jerusalem's Old City,
climbing Masada, swim-
ming in the Dead Sea,
hiking in the Galilee,
enjoying water sports in
the Red Sea at Eilat, and
meeting with Jewish
teens from around the
world. Dates are July 1 to
August 6.
Europe and Israel
Tour is for 15-18-year-
olds. A visit to London
and Paris or a tour of
Italy is followed by a tour
of Israel. Dates for this 5
1/2-week trip are from
June 27 to August 6. •
Archaeology Work/
Tour Experience is for
16-18-year-olds. On this
5-week tour, 2 weeks are
spent working on an
archaeological dig, the
rest touring Israel. Dates
are July 1 to August 6.

Israeli Experience

Summer programs in Isreal offer
study and travel experience for
teen-agers and college youth.

Betar-Tagar Pre-Col-
lege Israel Experience
is limited to teens gradu-
ating high school in 1993.
The program includes
learning Hebrew, meeting
Israeli students, and
touring the country.
Arrangements can be
made for college credit.
The 5-week trip is
planned for July 1 to
August 6.
Hadracha Seminar is
designed to build future
leaders of Betar through
seminars and experiences
while touring Israel. The
16-18-year-olds meet with
Israeli youth and leaders
to discuss issues facing
Israel and the Jewish
people. The 5-week pro-
gram is scheduled for
July 1 to August 6.

B'nai B'rith Youth
Organization Israel
Summer Institute Pro-
grams
Archaeology Pro-
gram is for high school-
age students, who spend 7
days on a dig and 35 days
touring the country from
June 24 to August 5.
Outdoor Adventure is
for high school students,
who see Israel via hiking
and outdoor activities,
including a camel hike in
the desert. Dates are
June 24 to August 5.
From Sea To Sea is
for high school students,
who join Israeli youth to
snorkel, kayak, fish, and

raft throughout the coun-
try for six weeks from
June 24 to August 5.
Eastern Europe com-
bines 5 days in Poland
and 4 weeks in Israel.
There are stops at major
sites, workshops and sem-
inars. The program is
scheduled for June 24 to
July 28.
Four Week Program
is a 27-day tour for high
school students that fol-
lows the Outdoor Adven-
ture itinerary. In addi-
tion, there are visits to all
major sites, workshops
and seminars. Dates are
June 2 to July 20.

Camp Ahava
Camp Ahava is a newly
formed program for girls
ages 13 to 18. It is
designed to serve the
needs of Bas Yisroel from
throughout the United
States and Canada. The
program includes tours of
historic sites, cultural
and sports activities, and
Shiurim. Camp Ahava is
based in Jerusalem. For

Habonim Dror of North
America
Machaneh
Bonim
B'Israel is the summer
leadership training pro-
gram for post-10th grade
students. Habonim Dror
is a Zionist youth move-
ment; students spend 2
weeks experiencing life on
a kibbutz as well as tour

the country for four
weeks. The program is
scheduled for early July
to mid-August. For infor-

Hashomer Hatzair
Hashomer Hatzair Ye-
did Plus is a leadership
development program for
16-17-year-olds. It in-
cludes three weeks in a
special camp in the
United States, then 10
days on a kibbutz, seven
days in an educational
setting, five days with
Israeli scouts hiking in
the Galilee, and the
remainder of the 8 weeks
touring Israel. Dates are
July to mid-August. For

Hi-Tech Study Tour
Hi-Tech Study Tour is
co-sponsored by Women's
American ORT and AZYF
(American Zionist Youth
Foundation). This 4-week
program for 15-18-year-
olds is based at the ORT
Braude International
Institute of Technology at
Karmiel, in the heart of
the Galilee. Students
learn about computers,
robotics, biotechnology,
and electronics. Dates are
July 19 to August 16. For

Israeli Scouts
Chetz V'Keshet is for
15-18-year-olds with a
knowledge of Hebrew. On
this 5 1/2 week trip from

July 13 to August 19,
there is touring and
training.
Chetz Israeli is a
shorter version of the trip
above, running for two
weeks, from August 8 to
August 19.
Chetz V'Keshet "Hem-
schech" is a continuing
program for those who
have already experienced
Chetz V'Keshet. This five-
week program is for 16-
18-year-olds and is sched-
uled for July 20 to August
19.
Tzabar is the leader-
ship program of the
Israeli Scouts youth
movement in North
America. A continuation
of the year-long program-
ming, it includes three
weeks in Israel touring
the country, attending
seminars, and participat-
ing with Israeli Scouts in
Israel in a special sum-
mer camp. An optional
week on a kibbutz is
offered. For 13-18-year-
olds from mid-July to
early August. For

Israel Sports Challenge
Israel Sports Challenge
is designed for students
on high school varsity
teams in tennis, swim-
ming, basketball, and soc-
cer (soccer for boys only).
The program includes
training, competition,
home hospitality, and
touring, as well as a spe-
cial bonus — attending
the opening ceremonies
and main events at the
14th Maccabiah to be held
in Israel this summer.
For 15-17-year-olds, the
six-week trip is scheduled
for June 30 to August 10.

Masada Leadership
Training Program is for
16-18-year-olds. The 5 1/2
week program is designed
to develop leadership
skills through creative
seminars and touring.
Dates are June 27 to
August 3; cost is $3,795.
