RESTAURANT & COCKTAIL LOUNGE

for recommending Cocina del
Sol's excellent grilled salmon
• sandwich at lunch.
SHOOTING BASKETS,
blocking shots and guarding
hoop opponents is a snap for
him . . . Putting on a tie is a
chore . . . And getting him to
don a suit just for a simple
• dinner on his birthday was
• just a little too much.
But being the respectful
young man that Harley
% Marks is, he looked his best
. .. especially flanked by the
two gals in his life, mother
Leah Marks and girlfriend
- Nicole Dardarian.
They went to Pals on Maple
off Orchard Lake Road for
dinner . . . which turned out
to be much more . . . as the
rest of 41 friends and rela-
tives came out of a back room
- singing
• - "Happy Birthday."
With miniature basketballs
anchoring balloons at each
; table, Harley was shockingly
thrilled to see everyone . . . in-
cluding the boys from his
wonderful West Bloomfield
High basketball team, of
which Harley is center, its
coach Tim Domke and assis-
• tant coach Barry Bershad.
Fashion show producer/
mother Leah Marks never put
on a better production than
this . . . with thanks to Tom
_ Lipinsky, former general
-.manager,
Jim Russo, new
/
general manager, dining room
manager Audra Milligan and
\ waitresses at Pals like Lisa
• O'Neil, all who helped make
Harley's 18th birthday a hap-
py and memorable one.
\
WHAT A LOT of cus-
tomers would like to hear
more waitpersons at restau-
rants say in 1993 .. .
"Welcome back, it's nice to
see you again" . . . "Sure, we
can do that for you" . . . "Let
• me check with the chef, but
• I'm sure we'll be able to ac-
commodate your request" .. .
"There's no extra charge for
that" . . . "Certainly, I'll get it
for you right away" . . .
"Would you care for more?"
. . "Sure, I'll be glad to
• change it" . . . "I'll be happy to
, get you some extra."
What customers would like
> not to hear from waitpersons
in 1993 . . . "Sorry, it's not my
station" . . . "Substitutions are
not allowed" . . . "I don't know!
;-= I'll have to check" . . . "Which
one of you ordered this?" .. .
"You'll have to order now, or
I may not get back to you for
a while" ... "Which one of you
gets the check?" . . . "Pass this
over to your friend there" .. .
"You did too order this!" . . . "I
only have two hands!" . . . "It's
supposed to be lukewarm"
. . . "I'll send the busperson
over when I get a minute" .. .
"Whoops! Sorry about that!"
. . . "Try a little soda water;

-

that should take the stain
out" . . . "I'll have to charge
you extra for that" . . . "I'm not
working here after tomorrow"
. . . "What'll you have, sweet-
ie" (or "honey") . . . "What are
we having today?" . . . "Did we
enjoy everything?"
AFTER BEING AWAY
from the local area about four
years, Larry Nozero, premier
saxophonist, composer and
arranger, is back . . . His lat-
est national release "Kaleido-
scopin' " has been getting a lot
of airplay by d.j.'s around the
country . . . and Larry's
"Grand Hotel" compact disc is
also being heard quite a bit on
local airwaves . . . His "Street
of Dreams" CD is set for re-
lease the first part of 1993.
The "Grand Hotel" CD has
all the elements needed for
good listening . . . with a lot of
Larry's tonal qualities and
arrangements that make for
entertaining moments. Suzie
Marsh are the very popular
listening and dancing duo at
Excalibur, Franklin Road off
Northwestern, is handling
Larry's bookings through Lo-
rio-Ross . . . For more info, call
Dan at 398-9711.
ROLE OF "Bobby Joe,"
monster in Hellmaster with
John Saxon (A Nightmare On
Elm Street), is played by Eric
Kingston, son of localites Bill
and Arlene Kingston. The
hideous looking makeup worn
by Eric is a three-hour
putting-on task.
ANNUAL FUND RAIS-
ER by Temple Israel, Jan. 16,
marks fifth consecutive year
for temple's biggest party,
"The Art of Food and Wine"
. . . 40 restaurants will have
entrees, desserts and wines
for tasting throughout the
evening . . . A silent auction
and raffle runs the entire
night . . . It's open to the pub-
lic, $50 per person . . . $55 at
the door . . . $100 patron tick-
ets lets folks also attend a
special event.
"The Art of Food and Wine"

shenson and Alan Kaplan .. .
